This week, a new architecture exhibition «Bravo! Concert venues in Latvia» was opened on the ground–floor of the art space «Civita Nova» at the concert hall «Great Amber» in Liepāja. It will be on view until November 6.
Every autumn the city of Liepāja hosts Architecture Days with the traditional Bertschy Readings (this year on October 28) and a broad event programme for architecture enthusiasts. This time, the exhibition «Bravo! Concert venues in Latvia» at the concert hall «Great Amber» is in the spotlight of the Architecture Days. In the recent years, several new regional concert halls have opened in Latvia, and the idea of alternative stages has also flourished — concerts find their audiences in the most unusual places.
«The design of concert venues exceeds the borders of architecture. One new concert hall can change the whole traffic system and the image of a city. One festival can occupy the minds of tens, when managing the organisation, parking and camping for music festivals. Architecture for just one day can be greater than architecture for a centenary. A concert on the digital cloud can be listened wherever internet is available,» says Ieva Zībārte, the curator of the exhibition.
The new regional concert halls across Latvia have strengthened the basis of Latvian music infrastructure, but it wouldn’t be as strong without the network of houses of culture, open–air stages and music schools that in every region provide meetings with music and architecture on a daily basis. No data has been collected on all the concert venues in Latvia, and this exhibition is an invitation to change this.
The authors of the exhibited works are architecture firms «Didzis Jaunzems Architecture», «Giencke & Company», «Jaunromāns un Ābele», «J. Pogas birojs», Vizuālās modelēšanas studija, «MADE arhitekti», «Mailītis A.I.I.M.», «MARK arhitekti», as well as fashion designers «Black Bag», «Flash You And Me», Keta Gūtmane, «Mareunrol’s», «Red Salt», Brigita Stroda, «tundra HATA» un «Žaime Sandals». The content of the exhibition was created by Ieva Zībārte, design — Brigita Bula, graphic design — «Associates, Partners et Sons». The exhibition is organised by Liepāja City Construction Board and Architecture Promotion Foundation.
The exhibition «Bravo! Concert venues in Latvia» is open until November 6 on the ground–floor of the art space «Civita Nova», concert hall «Great Amber», Radio iela 8, Liepāja. Opening hours: Mon–Sat 10.00–20.00, Sun 10.00–15.00. Admission is free.
