This year, 58 product design students graduated from the Riga School of Design and Art, completing the new modular programme that aims to provide practical skills in working with various materials and technologies. The head of the education programme is designer Baiba Lindāne, who, in addition to her teaching work, works on product, interior, and graphic design projects in her studio, Mājo. In the Nice Touch section, Baiba talks about the activity that gives her energy and clears her head.

Nice Touch Editorial July 25, 2025

«Throughout the year, I participate in strength and endurance training sessions in Lucavsala, led by trainer Kristīne Mūrniece. They help to clear my mind and relieve everyday stress. The sessions on the banks of the Daugava River — surrounded by nature and fresh air — enrich my emotions and give me both physical and emotional strength.»

In recent years, designer Baiba Lindāne has developed and led the Product Design programme at the Riga School of Design and Art, introducing a comprehensive approach to education and initiating collaborative projects with entrepreneurs and state and municipal institutions to help prepare future designers for work in the industry.

Together with designer Uģis Gailis, Baiba runs the studio Mājo. Although they work on projects in various fields, the studio’s focus is on product design, with a particular emphasis on rational product manufacturing technology. Mājo has created a range of interior design objects whose minimalist forms echo Latvian folk traditions and craftsmanship.
