With the aim of documenting contemporary art and other creative fields, a new art book publishing house, Entropy.press, has recently been launched. Until January 23, the publishing house invites artists, photographers, and graphic designers to submit book ideas, with the best proposals to be developed into innovative and experimental publications. One of the founders of Entropy.press is sculptor and designer Anna Priede. In the Nice Touch section, she talks about a habit that allows her to find inspiration and discover new «nice touches».

«I recommend finding a new artist or designer every week whose work inspires you or, in the best case scenario, obsesses you. It is important not to jump from one author to another but to devote a week to researching this artist — getting to know their personality, working techniques, and way of thinking. By getting to know different authors every week, whether local or foreign, young or long dead, you can cultivate a substrate of references and inspiration, as well as gain some «nice touches» from them, which are often unnamed but reveal themselves in their works and words.

This is exactly how I have acquired my favourite habits and quirks. For example, I collect various types of white paper so that at the beginning of the design process for a new book, I already have a fairly wide range of paper available, which lets me imagine different design options both visually and in terms of texture.»

Anna Priede works in various creative fields. As a sculptor, she creates works of art and interior design objects, which often also serve as functional items. Anna also designs books, searching for new forms and means of expression, while always maintaining a laconic visual language.

At the end of last year, Anna and visual artist Katrīna Marta Riņķe founded the art book publishing house Entropy.press to promote the creation of new, innovative, and experimental art publications by supporting artists and art book designers who explore the book as a medium. Until January 23, authors are invited to submit book manuscripts or drafts in one of three categories: visual art, photography, or graphic design. The publishing house plans to agree on further cooperation and the publication process with the selected authors. More about the competition here.

Perhaps you noticed some changes in this week’s Nice Touch animation? This year, the young artist Betija Jakaite has joined the FOLD team. She is studying in the Motion. Image. Sound. programme at the Art Academy of Latvia, and her main interests lie in illustration and animation, where she enjoys experimenting with different tools and materials.
