Until February 21, the Asni gallery is hosting the exhibition of artist and designer Aleksandrs Breže, which explores thresholds — between the physical and digital worlds, between aesthetic experience and functionality. Aleksandrs creates his conceptually multi-layered works in both the digital environment and material reality, thus expanding the boundaries of traditional craftsmanship. In the Nice Touch section, he talks about how to overcome a creative block.
«When you lack inspiration on screen, find it in your hands! When you lack ideas for your hands, buy a new tool!
After the exhibition, I felt a little stuck. I bought a new lathe and immediately came up with a hundred new ideas of what I could make.»

Aleksandrs Breže graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam (2018) and the Estonian Academy of Arts in Tallinn (2022), majoring in graphic design. His artistic practice is closely tied to the study of the digital environment and the creation of three-dimensional abstractions that reference the visual aesthetics of the 1990s and utopias of virtual space.
In the exhibition Threshold at gallery Asni, Aleksandrs presents new functional and sculptural objects, created using digital tools to complement hands-on work and craftsmanship. With an ironic and surreal view of the everyday environment, the designer «animates» interior objects playfully using associations and cultural references.
