The Flipster chair by children’s soft furniture brand Wigiwama combines several functions — it transforms from a comfortable lounger into a small bed, serving as a great solution for sleepovers. The chair’s modernist-inspired design makes it suitable not only for children’s rooms but even for minimalist interiors. Just recently, Flipster won the German Design Award 2026 in the Excellent Product Design — Furniture category.

Wigiwama creates high-quality soft furniture for children that combines functionality with playful yet tasteful aesthetics. The company’s modular solutions are not only comfortable to sit on but also encourage creative play. Flipster is a continuation of the brand’s Flip chair, offering a larger size and more customisation options. The chair consists of three interchangeable modules that can be combined to create a lounger, a comfortable spot for playtime, or a cosy bed.

Designer Mark Litvyakov says that the chair’s design was inspired by the geometric aesthetics of Bauhaus. «For me, simple shapes are the key to achieving timeless elegance,» says Mark. He is convinced that good taste should be developed in children from an early age, which is why Wigiwama avoids oversaturated designs that overload children’s perception

The brand also ensures that their children’s furniture is easy to care for. Flipster is designed with a removable, washable cover that is available in a variety of colours and fabrics. All of them have received Oeko-Tex certification, which confirms that no harmful substances were used in the production of the fabric. Equally important is that Wigiwama products are manufactured ethically — they are handmade at the company’s production facility in Daugavpils.

Wigiwama’s approach to product design was also praised by the jury of the German Design Award: «Versatility and a clear, reduced design language define Flipster, creating a distinctive presence within any space. The flexible modular construction unites functionality with an inspiring aesthetic that appeals to children and adults alike. The consistent use of high-quality, sustainable materials and comfortable usability makes this project stand out as an iconic highlight in an exemplary way.»

«This award is a testament to our passion, craftsmanship, and creative vision. We are deeply grateful to the German Design Council and the jury for this wonderful recognition. It motivates us to continue designing with care, imagination and purpose, creating pieces that support families, nurture creativity, and cultivate good taste from an early age,» says the Wigiwama team, celebrating their success.

The German Design Awards honour products and concepts offering smart, forward-thinking solutions to today’s challenges. Thousands of applications from more than 60 countries are submitted each year to the competition, making it a global platform for design excellence.
