Until August 30, the Part Time gallery is hosting a solo exhibition by Australian interior architect and artist Maike Statz entitled A Table is a Wall, a Door, a Home. In her creative practice, she focuses on the relationship between the body and the space, exploring spatial inequality and looking for alternative tools and methods for shaping the environment. In the Nice Touch section, Maike talks about a more creative and personal alternative to colour palettes.

«When I am looking for a specific colour for a project, I first find a reference image, either online or from my own collection. This could be anything — a sunset, a chrome teapot, or a ghost gum tree. I then use the eyedropper tool to search within the image for the exact shade that I am looking for. I really enjoy this process and prefer it to choosing colours from a pre-existing chart. It gives each colour more meaning to me.»

Maike Statz is an Australian interior architect and artist currently living in Oslo. Her work focuses on how architecture influences emotions, behaviour, and identity, and how these aspects, in turn, influence architecture. Maike is particularly interested in the practical, political, and philosophical aspects of furniture and other interior elements, and her approach is influenced by feminist and queer theory.

Maike’s exhibition, A Table is a Wall, a Door, a Home, on view at the Part Time gallery until August 30, focuses on the symbolic and political meanings of the table. The installation explores how this everyday object can simultaneously maintain and disrupt familiar structures — from traditional households to community self-organisation.
