Until September 3, the Great Amber concert hall in Liepāja is hosting the most extensive exhibition in Latvia dedicated to contemporary Baltic design — Tactile Baltics. One of the participants is the renowned glass artist Artis Nīmanis, whose works combine craftsmanship with technological innovation and minimalist lines. In the Nice Touch section, Artis talks about his favourite tool.

Nice Touch Editorial August 29, 2025

«I have been using the Toyo TC-17 glass cutter in my work for 25 years. Not only does it cut beautifully, but it is also perfectly balanced. In addition, I like its clean design. Without this tool, my glass life would be unimaginable!»

Artis Nīmanis is one of Latvia’s most prominent glass artists, who has been honing his craft for more than 20 years. His minimalist and functional designs masterfully combine technology and craftsmanship. As the lead designer at An&angel, he has developed innovative glass processing methods, including vacuum titanium coating, creating unique reflective surfaces. His works can be found in museums and private collections in Europe, the US, China, Mexico, and Japan.

Artis’ works can currently be seen in several exhibitions. Until 30 August, his solo exhibition Gaismas slazdi. Stikls (Light Traps. Glass) is on view at Vilsona Veranda in Talsi Municipality. In Liepāja, the contemporary Baltic design exhibition Tactile Baltics runs until September 3 at the Great Amber Concert Hall, where Artis is featured alongside 18 designers from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. Also in Liepāja, at the Promenade Hotel, his solo exhibition Netveramais stikls (Intangible Glass) is open until 29 October.
