This year, a new art book publishing house, Entropy.press, was established by visual artist Katrīna Marta Riņķe and graphic designer and sculptor Anna Priede. Their goal is to document developments in contemporary art and other creative fields, as well as to promote the availability of art publications in Latvia and the Baltics. Entropy.press seeks new and unusual forms of publication and invites artists, photographers, and designers to submit book manuscripts or drafts in the fields of visual art, photography, or graphic design.

«Entropy means breaking down into smaller particles and disappearing, a process characteristic of contemporary art trends. Advocating for the preservation of significant and valuable works and addressing the lack of access to art books in Latvia, Entropy.press seeks new and unusual forms of publication, rejecting the traditional idea of a book as an exclusive volume. Instead, in collaboration with the publisher and book designers, artists are invited to rediscover the book as a medium — its form, narrative structure, and flow –, paying attention to the diversity of content, reader experience, and perspective. In search of new, sustainable, and accessible publishing methods, the publishing house focuses on preserving the work of living artists and archiving the present, preventing its disappearance and dissolution into entropy,» says the call for submissions.

The publisher invites artists to submit book manuscripts or drafts in one of three categories: visual arts, photography, or graphic design. The application must include a brief description of the project; a manuscript, draft or concept; a CV of creative work and contact information. There is no set format for the manuscript or draft — you can submit texts, series of images, layout sketches, visual concepts, graphic design examples, etc. It is important that the materials allow the jury to understand the concept and structure of the publication.

The competition does not offer a financial prize but aims to promote the creation of new, innovative, and experimental art publications by supporting artists and art book designers who explore the book as a medium. It is planned that the publisher will agree on further cooperation and the publication process with the selected authors by entering a separate contract.

The deadline for submissions is January 23, 2026. More information about the competition, its rules and the registration form is available on the Entropy.press website.

Entropy.press was founded in early 2025 by visual artist Katrīna Marta Riņķe together with graphic designer and sculptor Anna Priede.. The publishing house was created in response to the lack of visually powerful and diverse publications in the Latvian and Baltic cultural space. In the long term, Entropy.press plans to open an art book library and a specialised shop in Riga, promoting local and international art books and thus providing valuable resources for industry professionals, students, and the wider public. You can follow the publishing house’s activities on the Entropy.press website and on social media platforms Instagram and Facebook.
