At the end of November, the design and communication studio Ausme shared some good news. This week, the studio made its debut in product design, releasing a collection of sculptural objects called The Parade of Winter Guardians. Meanwhile, the visual identity created by Ausme for the tenth anniversary of the Lampa conversation festival has just received a bronze award at the ADCE Awards 2025 competition. In the Nice Touch section, studio director and co-founder Beāte Broka shares her recipe for maintaining peace of mind even on stressful days.

«Even when work has become overwhelming, I mostly manage to avoid getting caught up in the anxiety and maintain a calm and positive mindset. What helps me? A deliberately slow start to the day and a commitment to complete at least one task.

I am a breakfast person, and I devote at least 30 minutes of my morning to preparing and eating it. Why leave the slow and pleasant feeling of a weekend breakfast only for the weekends? The feeling of peace when you sit down at the table, look into the distance, and also remember what you have eaten is very calming for the mind. They say that how you start your day is how you will spend it!

On busy days, it often seems like you have to run around in all directions, but in the end, nothing gets done. That’s why during breakfast I think of the one most important thing I will do today. One priority that stands above everything else. This helps me stay focused on what’s important and feel satisfied with the day’s saldo.»

Beāte Broka is the director of the design and communications studio Ausme and, together with creative director Dārta Apsīte, its co-founder. She has spent more than ten years working in the advertising industry, supporting creatives, driving strategic projects, and building client trust. Beāte has extensive experience in working with digital campaigns and products, and in recent years she has focused on graphic design and audiovisual project management.

Ausme explores the boundary between the ancient and the contemporary in their work, creating visual identities and creative concepts deeply rooted in culture. The studio is particularly interested in Latvian cultural codes, which Ausme interprets using modern forms of expression. The Parade of Winter Guardians — the studio’s first collection of interior objects — is dedicated to the winter solstice and inspired by the Latvian tradition of masking. The studio is also interested in themes of community and social engagement. The visual identity of the tenth anniversary of the Lampa conversation festival, created by Ausme in collaboration with graphic designer Valter Kalsers, received the bronze award in the Graphic Communications category at the ADCE Awards 2025.
