In mid-January, furniture design brand Kanttari participated in the prestigious interior design fair Maison&Objet in Paris, where they presented the Orion bar cabinet. Created in collaboration with glass artist Artis Nīmanis, it embodies Kanttari’s approach to design, combining sculptural form, luxurious materials, and thoughtful functionality. The brand’s dazzling stand at the exhibition attracted both visitors and media attention.

«The theme of this year’s Maison&Objet fair, Past Reveals Future, resonated organically with the philosophy of Kanttari— respect for craft traditions to transform them into contemporary, internationally relevant design. The stand concept stood out with its futuristic dramaturgy, depth of materials, and distinct visual identity, allowing Orion to become the central piece and magnet for attention,» says Agnese Stalte, marketing manager of the brand.

The design of the Orion bar cabinet was created by Renāts Kotļevs, founder of Kanttari, in collaboration with artist Artis Nīmanis, whose opulent glass handle is the focal point of the design, «transforming the opening of the cabinet into a ritual». The exterior of Orion is laconic and clad in reflective metal, while the interior reveals a variety of luxurious materials — backlit marble, ostrich leather-lined drawers, and other tactile details. The luxury is also created by the functions integrated into the furniture — sculptural glass holders, wine coolers, and a special drawer for oysters.

Visitors to Maison&Objet were drawn not only by Orion itself but also by the shimmering stand, which both echoes and contrasts with the design of the bar cabinet. «The seemingly randomly broken, reflective background shapes allow light to play freely in the space, reflecting the environment and the viewer’s movements. Against this changing, lively background, the central object — the Orion bar cabinet — embodies calm, precision, and clearly defined lines. Its monolithic form conceals a rich, carefully crafted inner world that is revealed only when approached. The stand invites slow, conscious viewing and discovery,» explains Agnese.

She says that the Kanttari stand and Orion attracted a wide range of exhibition visitors — from interior designers and architects to industry professionals and design media such as Elle Decoration and Sixtysix Magazine. The exhibition organisers also highlighted the brand in their social media communications. Kanttari team emphasises that participation in the exhibition has not only strengthened the brand’s position in the global market but also confirms that «Latvian design can compete and inspire on a global scale».
