Ronald van der Hilst lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium since 1993 and initially concentrated on garden and landscape architecture, as well as writing for garden magazines. Although it started as a joke, the stereotypical Dutch tulip has become an integral part and the conjunctive thematic and graphic element of his work for 10 years. From 2005 van der Hilst works as a product and graphic designer, and since then his tulip design products have become internationally renown. His crystal tulip vase «Bulbe», produced by «Val Saint Lambert» has been added to the Royal collection in the Netherlands. In different collaboration projects, he has created not only tulip themed classical interior design products, but fashion collections, books, murals, sculptures, jewellery, chandeliers, illustrations and postcards as well. The designer has decorated gardens of museums and designed tulip plantations and private gardens. One of the more recent projects, where tiles by van der Hilst have been used, is the interior for Qingdao metro station in China by «Igloodgn».
