The winter issue of «Modernists» has brought exciting news — a new store of the same name has just opened in Riga offering previous issues of the magazine, books on architecture and selected design objects.

Stories Editorial December 22, 2014

The winter issue focuses on work: local offices of international corporations «Cabot» and «Accenture», spaces for creative work in Vilnius and Kassel, and an apartment that has preserved the original workplace of the poet Aleksandrs Čaks.

This time «Modernists» has a special insert with essays dedicated to this year’s winners of the Latvian Architecture Award. New authors and experienced writers have debuted in architectural criticism and illustration, providing their view on the best works in Latvian architecture in 2014.

The magazine’s fashion pages explore on– and offline shopping possibilities at design and fashion stores of the Baltic region. Food section promises a luscious chocolate treatment, but the heritage section unfolds the story of «Estonia» piano manufacture — throughout Soviet occupation, the following era of privatisation and the international competition of today.

Along with the new issue, a new store and club «Modernists» has opened its doors in Riga, Ģertrūdes iela 62. Here one can find previous issues of the magazine, choose modernist furniture, design objects and wine, but the beloved design and architecture book shelves of «Lukabuka» have reopened in a new format.
