This year Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) and Riga Motor Museum presented a colouring book for children and adults «Together from a carriage to an electrocar» («Kopā no karietes līdz elektromobilim»). The graphic design of the book was created by the design studio «H2E», and the illustrations were made by the artist Elīna Elere.

The colouring book «Together from a carriage to an electrocar» tells the history of cars in the context of Riga’s cultural and historical space. In addition to the cars it depicts the streets of Riga, neighbourhoods and well–known buildings: «An attentive reader will recognize the Riga Bourse house with Krastiņš car, the facade of the factory «Red Star», and the Motor Museum with the new annex building of the CSDD and the electric vehicle next to it,» tells the co–author of the book, lead designer of the design studio «H2E» Ingūna Elere.

Hand–drawn illustrations and illustrative stylistics of the book were first used in the pedagogical room of the Motor Museum, designed by «H2E», where children aged 6–16 have the opportunity to learn the traffic rules in a creative and interactive way. The walls are decorated with large–format Riga streets drawings by Elīna Elere, and they served as the basis for the colouring book.

«The colouring book was our proposal, as during development of the Motor Museum exhibition we also did drawings of the museum’s exhibits,» explains Inguna. «Our goal was to create a book that could engage both a child and an adult. A vehicle is displayed in each opening of the book, and the corresponding context of time and space is shown next to it. To give a better insight into the history of the car, in the beginning of the book there is additional information about the cars, their bonnets, and capacity,» continues Ingūna.The hard covers of the book contain silver foil and textile binding. Both the cover of the book and the inside pages are dominated by white, thus inviting the readers to express their creativity. And the red connects the book with its theme — the world of cars and traffic.
