Designer Rūta Jumīte has just received the National Design Award of Latvia 2023 for the visual identity of the youth organisation Young Folks. Although Rūta is best known as a graphic designer, she works multidisciplinarily. Currently, her areas of interest include sustainable community-oriented service design projects, and Rūta has also tried her hand at environmental design. In the Nice Touch column, the designer recommends her favourite radio station.

Nice Touch Editorial June 16, 2023

«NTS Radio is my support mechanism that helped me survive during the COVID time, relocate to Finland where I didn’t know anyone, and make new friends in Helsinki, with whom I share a common NTS Radio fanaticism, in a single conversation. This radio station helped me write my master’s thesis, apply for grants, and come to terms with unreceived funding. About a year ago, my friends and I learned that our favourite breakfast time DJ, Charlie Bones, who knew how to cheer up his audience in the mornings, even if he himself was grumpy, had left NTS Radio. We immediately dropped our work, met, and agreed in solidarity that this event marked the end of our lives. Luckily, he didn’t disappear completely and started his own radio station, Do!!You!!!»
