Previously known as the Riga Zine Festival, Sābrs aims to strengthen the cooperation between artists and small publishers, as well as to introduce the wider public to this art form. Organisers of the festival hope to cultivate and increase neighbourliness among publishers and artists, sharing ideas and experiences, as well as creating mutual connections. For this reason, the name Sābrs was chosen for the festival, which is an old Latvian word meaning neighbour.

This year, the theme of the festival is Anatomy of the Neighbourhood Garden. «Through workshops, performances, and conversations, we will try to understand why the grass always seems to be greener in neighbours’ gardens,» says the team of Sābrs. It is planned that the festival will be introduced by several exhibitions in different places of Riga, while the main event of the festival, the zine market, will be held on July 8 and 9 at the Āgenskalns Market. You can apply for participation in the festival until May 25 by filling out the application form.

The festival is organised by Četrdesmit grādi association and illustrators Rebeka Lukošus and Jurijs Tatarkins. More information about the festival can be found on the Sābrs Instagram and Facebook pages.
